What is Goth to me?
Well, geez, that's a hard question to answer...
Here's a very long-winded response...
Goth is a lifestyle choice more than anything.
I've been interested in the darker side of life for ages, grew up listening to things like My Bloody Valentine and Cathedral (of my own choice, might I add! My parents insisted on having either The Beatles of The Rolling Stones on all the time). Started reading Poe, Dickens and the Bronte sisters at a young age.
It's about apprectiating the more marcarbe side of fine art and literature and understanding the pain the writers and artists went through.
It's also about having a book nearby in which to record all your thoughts and feelings at anytime of the day.
The asthetic is something most Goths strive for, and is really quite central to the lifestyle.
Another part of Gothic lifestyle is the music, but you are in no way limited to what might be classed as the "typical" Gothic music scene.
I was classed as a "freak" up until just about two years ago. That's when I started getting into the Goth scene properly. People still call me a "freak" but now that I know I fit in somewhere, I can just shake it off without getting upset about it.
To me, Goth is knowing that you fit in somewhere with people who know how you feel and understand you... But still give you enough room to be solitary and to be yourself. |

I mean, you can dress "goth" but it doesn't make you one.

| goth is not just about black and bands it is about hte person themselfs anyone can be anything but it takes a lot of guts to admit you are one thing that almost everyone hates. I told my mom why i wore black and lots of eyeliner and she just looked at me and laughed then she disowned me a couple of days later. I am the way i am because of my family i'm an outcast never to be found except for by those who are also outcasts among outcasts like myself. |

| hum, what a very complicated question yet so innocent, goth, gothic, my my my, where to begin. i know.. sala ve in your own retina. show the world who are and and when they choose to see it as they see fit, just stop caring and love yourself still, when all this greenery, all the cities, and all the world, has been dovoured in ashes. as i will always live in my own beauty,light,and dark, embrace the sence of knowing what is realy happening, no matter how grotesque others may see it. |

| Goth to me is turning to dark music when everyone rejects you for who you really are. I'll admit it. Inside, im a sick fuck who loves blood and looks up to people involved in school shootings/suicides. And so far, music is the only thing thats allways been there for me... |

| goth isnt just the music and the clothes i mean it has to do with art so..that makes people who are goth beautiful peices of art since that is what goth used to be please no one yell at me for posting this because if you do.......im going to cry big bloody tears |

Revision: isn't this what goth is to YOU? So this should be a question of what you consider goth. Because gothic itself has roots in writing, art, music, fashion, architecture, etc.
Wasn't 'gothic' pioneered by a romantic-era writing style in which appreciation for nature, individuality, and an emphasis on human flaw was all the rage?
