| goth is not about the close u wear or the music it is in the soul and very few people are true goths take me for an example i am not a true goth. me im into the pain of others and i have my own pains too though i do laugh at them and myself during this pain i do feel theres i ignore my pain till the night to meditate it away i will sometimes find myself a tomboy. plus goth is a long extint religion. i used to study many religions. but now i study the human body and i kno 50 different ways to kill everyone. u dont have to agree w/me i could care less if u did or didnt. all i kno is that i like pain around me at all times. |

| and what religion may this be? and what exactly did they preach or worship? all i've heard from history and goths were the teutonic tribe also known as the Goths fighting and rebelling against the roman empire, they where called goth because it was named after family tribe rulers, the royals of the tribes. never once heard of it being a actual religion untill it was confused with paganism and wicca, satanism and other such related misinterperataitons. so tell me, whats this gothic religion??? enlighten me. |

and it is about the clothes you wear, its is about the music you listen to,go back a page and read, better yet, go into the topic david wrote and fucking learn something.
weither a goth just listens to the music without the dress or with it, it still has everything to do with being goth basing it on what it originated from...which....is..MUSIC...
damn i think people need to start reading before they type their own shit....oh wait, no one likes being wrong.....well too fuckin bad, you can't change the truth just because you don't agree with it.
no matter how many times this shit s explained it like they build some wall over their already thick skulls just because they are in denile. its not a religion.....

i think it would be right if i attempt to define the undefinable by using levels. at least 5 levels. the #1 spot being the gothest of them all.
the top5 spot belongs to those who think dressing up as a goth is goth in itself. the answer is no. what you wear is actually the first thing you notice in a person from a distance before you get to speak with them.
top 4 would be those who are into gothic arts or those people with such creative genius that they blow you away being the supposed goth that you are. it beats the fashion queens because at least this bunch has the talent. i think it's safe to drag those literary fanatics of Poe and Lovecraft into this goth type.
top 3 would be those who are familiar with goth in general but is a neophyte or a dumbass at that, meaning they don't quite grasp what goth really is and most of the time they confuse it with mainstream outfits that play dark music.
top 2 would be those that are with the gothic scene and yet they only go participate for the fun of it or are forced by their boyfriends or girlfriends to meet up with real goths but are having some conflicting interests on the other hand, still unwilling to go all the way, and with limited knowledge in music. they just know people and get along with the goths fine. this group is actually composed of great potentials because they probably will learn a lot in the long run if they keep on doing it.
top 1 would be those who have a long time experience with the goth scene, is well-enlightened about the broader workings of the culture, is open-minded to the different types of goth variants and have an extensive record collection and familiarity with the bands and their significance to the genre, and has consistently been passionate about the music as well as the fashion and overall lifestyle all at the same time. |

i've been associated with the goth scene and its music for over ten years. but i still don't wish to concider myself a "100% goth" i am into way too many other things then just the gothic subculture. i love black metal for instence, something that is very opposite of gothic music, but i am a snobby jugmental preacher who can't stand those who refuse to learn and keep basing who they are on inaccurate stereotypes..... thats just how i roll.
aborted simplified everything goth stands for,its music, its beauty, its darkness embraced in art, its just a shame no one will listen.learn. or take concideration of the facts. |

Goth well can there REALLY be a term or meaning truthfully it can be in history pop culture how can a person now whats what. Goth a term for seeing beauty in the dark disgust in the light able to see the world in the different eyes instead of the ofvious maybe there is a goth in everyone cause everyone has that knowledge and maybe goths are the people who are smart imaginative beautiful dark people that express it in the arts. Or you have the people just are purely genuinely different than ordinary able to feel the pains of the worst and the best and the joy of the under achieved loving the fact that the world can be different lovely and have the desire to exspress that out to the world they can feel it in there soul that love death beauty can all be realated abd that the light always never means good and the dark doesnt always have to be hate bad,

To me goth is a lifestyle and a perspective. It came from germany and today the media has made it a horrid fad. True goths don't appreciate the mainstream folly that's put toward us. For instance being goth does not mean you are crazy disturbed and wear black. Its bologna. To be gothic is to see the beauty is darkness. To say dead flowers are more beautiful. That's an example. To make fun of this thread does not amuse me, and those I have seen who have are fools in my eyes.

| I guess gothic is a way of life, the ability to see beauty where noone see it, to be able to think by yourself, not letting being manipulated by what you see or what people tell you. To express yourself without limits, everyperson has a different meaning of what a goth is but I think at the end is the way that some people see the world froma different angle. :) Nowadays people think because they dressed in black are gothic :) I guess people will never learn what a true goth is. |

and the only reason people have different meanings, is because everyone's so god damn dense and too involved with inacurate versions they have heard, turning goth into their own version because it suits them, they are too scared to find out they are not realy goth and just "going along with it".....well fuck you. grow up if your not 15, if you are 15...well fucking educate yourself cuz then its not too late.
