Okay this thread is for your suggestion/opinion etc of what you think is a good cover song from wotever recent band/not so recent of an older song.

Hopefully we could make it into a fun thread where we actually seek out cover songs from all genres - not just goth/metal/emo/etc. And perhaps any suggestions that are made other could listen to the original song and the cover song and say their opinion as to whether they prefer the original or the cover...

Thought this could be a fun thread if people got involved ^.^

Okay my first suggestion is

Original : Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush

Cover : Running up that Hill by Within Temptation

I prefer the cover as much as I like 80's music I think Within Temptation did a really good job at keeping the original sorta beat/rhythm and didnt stray from the meaning/atmosphere Kate Bush was getting across. BUT I reckon they enhanced it and gave it really good depth XD

It can be tricky finding good covers, but I will have a little think, I'm sure theres some good ones out there...

When we play live we sometimes add a few covers to the set to bulk things out;

Das Model- Kraftwerk
Love Will Tear us Apart - Joy Division
Street Spirit (fade out) - Radiohead
Grey Day- Madness
Dead Skin Mask- Slayer

Messing around at practices we sometimes do a take on "The Lovecats" by The Cure, but thats not quite come together yet

I will have to get around to recording and uplading some videos to Youtube at some point

Pink Floyd-Across The Universe (Original The Beatles)
Steve Morse & Dixie Dregs-Kashmir (Led Zeppelin)
Deep Purple-Black Magic Woman (Santana)
Vanilla Fudge-Sunshine Of Your Love (Jimi Hendrix)
Frank Zappa-Stairway To Heaven (Led Zeppelin)
The Animals-Paint It Black (Rolling Stones)

There's a Laibach album cover of The Beatles and "Across the Universe" is one of them. Also, there's a gODHEAD remake of "Eleanor Rigby" also by The Beatles.

"Sunshine of your Love" was originally done by Cream... with Jimi's kinda rival, Eric Clapton :P

the gODHEAD cover of "Eleanor Rigby" makes me smile :D

I've heard so many covers of Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black", it's ridiculous:

The Screaming Dead (early Gothic Rock)
The Feelies (Indie Rock)
Vanessa Carlton... well, she added a sitar, but her voice just ruins the entire thing.
I can't remember any others... but I think Apoptygma Berzerk may have done a cover of it, as well.. but I'm not sure.

Soft Cell - "Tainted Love" and "Where Did Our Love Go?" by Gloria Jones and The Supremes, respectively

The Newlydeads - "Cities in Dust" and "Silent Night" by Siouxsie and the Banshees... I actually think Siouxsie may sing in it... or some other chick... and ...it's that christmas song... it's an absolutley brilliant track, too :D

NIN - "Suck"... I think that's the one... it was originally done by Pigface... with Trent singing both >.>

Bile - "Mid-Life Crisis", "We Got the Beat", ...they've got a full album of covers called "The Copy Machine" but those two are by Faith No More and The Go-Go's, respectively

Error - "Homicide" originally by 999

Rabbit Junk - "Start the Riot" originally by Atari Teenage Riot

The Shizit - "Just One Fix" originally by Ministry :D

Some unknown third wave ska band - "Walkin' on Sunshine" originally by Katrina and the Waves... and no, the cover IS NOT by Five Iron Frenzy (who have admitted they didn't cover it... but should have and even gave a few names as to who it might actually be) and it is NOT by Reel Big Fish.

Jimi Hendrix - "All Along the Clock Tower"... or whatever it's called originally by Bob Dylan (I believe...)

Powerman 5000 - "Creep" originally by Radiohead... it's a live thing.

Anno Daemonicus - "Reptile" and "The Immigrant Song" by Nine Inch Nails and Led Zeppelin

Wormcult - "Starfuckers Inc." and "Into the Void/The Day the World Went Away" both by Nine Inch Nails

PIG - "Head Like a Hole" by Nine Inch Nails

uh... I may add more later :D
